“DEADLY CONNECTIONS” TEST POST APRIL 12 2012

April 12th, 2012

The Fantasy World is very similar to the Godfather’s UNDERWORLD.  You need to have “connections” in the real world to get business done efficiently, as you need “CONNECTIONS” in Fantasy to bring that FEAR FACTOR to opponents, as some owners can be easily ‘spooked’ into changing their own line-up in FEAR of yours!!  This is Don Sic’s bread and butter article.  He prides his teams each year with a deadly connection that can leave an opponent buried by 2p.m. on Sundays.  Each week Don Sic will discuss the most deadly connections in Fantasy as well as the “Under The Table” connections that you could spot start and horrify opponents.

TEST POST  APRIL 12 2012‘:

1.  Cam Newton to Steve Smith: We’re straying away from the standard ranking of DEADLY CONNEX for week 16 as things have dramatically changed with Brees spreading it around so much and Rodgers losing Jennings.  Newton to Smitty will yield the most collective fantasy points this week as they face a Tampa Bay defense that has no stud CB Talib out there and playing at home will mean a score at least for Smitty and BIG yardage.

2.  Matthew Stafford to Megatron: These two could have been #1 but Newton’s output outweighs that of Stafford giving them the edge.  This Lions duo faces a Chargers secondary in Detroit that has given up 13 TDs so far to opposing WRs and multiple TDs to the opposing #1 WR  a couple of times so Calvin should catch 2 here.  Stafford will blow up if Rivers can put up pts keeping the pressure on.

3.  Tom Brady to Wes Welker: If you remember when these two (Pats v Miami) played to start this 2011 3.5 months ago you know that Brady threw for 4 TDs and 500+ yards passing so we think he does about 70% of that this time around and that leaves him with a great day. Facing his old team Welker is sure to be targeted 10+ times and we see at least 1 TD here against the Dolphins.

4.  Tony Romo to Miles Austin: Finally these two can be put back atop this list where they belong as they are at home this week facing a Philly secondary that can be raped on the road.  We think Tony will be motivated to do well here after he bombed against this defense earlier this year.  The biggest factor is the health of Felix Jones, if he is out, that leaves Sammy Morris and an extreme likelihood Romo throws 15 more times than usual.  this game should be in the top 2 highest scoring games of the week.

5.  Matt Ryan to Roddy White: Both these two are simultaneously breaking out as White has not had one game all year like he did last week.  Facing the Saints this week means they WILL need 30+ points to win and that means more action to Roddy.  We see a monster day for both these players.  All you need to know is Ryan threw over 50 passes last meeting with New Orleans and a total of 351 yards and 2 TDs.  We see those same stats here week 16.

UNDER THE TABLE

(not-so-obvious)

DEADLY CONNECTIONS

Wk 16

1.  Philip Rivers to Malcolm Floyd:  With Vincent Jackson banged up again and the Chargers facing a vicious Lions offense in Detroit where points will be needed, Floyd steps in to be a legit WR1 this week as Rivers trusts him and already goes to him more than VJAX when Jackson is healthy.  Get Floyd in all line ups if we see Jackson misses practice this Friday.  The Lions secondary is also ranked #1 easiest overall for opposing QBs this half of the season so FUHGETABOUTIT!

2.  Tim Tebow to Demaryius Thomas: These two let us down last week as they missed the BIG game against a super weak Pats secondary.  This coming week we anticipate a MONSTER game against an already crumbled Bills squad.  In each of the last two games Thomas has been targeted 13 times by Tebow making him the clear cut #1 guy in Denver and a WR2 in all fantasy leagues week 16, especially with three 100+ yard receiving games in a row.

3.  Matt Moore to Brandon Marshall: Marshall is doing so well he is carrying Moore’s fantasy value all by himself literally.  Going against the worst secondary in football the sky is the limit for this team.  They’ll be forced to throw to, which is ironic, so Marshall will top 100 yards receiving and hopefully have 2 TDs in time for XMAS eve.

4.  Kyle Orton to Dwyane Bowe: We love Orton coming in just as much as we thought we would and he did exceed out expectations week 15 and should do the same week 16 playing at home and facing a decimated Raiders secondary. We are not banking on 300+ yards by Orton but close to it with 2 TDs is reasonable.  Bowe is due here so expect a good bye to 2011 gift from him.

5.  Rex Grossman to Santana Moss: Playing at home and having a week 16 Viking opponent that is ranked in the top 3 easiest against opposing WRs and Moss is getting targets, yards and TDs lately.  Rex is solid as well having both Moss and Gaffney out there to throw to.  If Helu is legitimately banged up then Rex will throw at least 20% more than usual so that would be huge here!

**Contemplating your own DEADLY CONNEX not on this list, if so and you want to “VOUCH” for it, click ASK THE FAMILY and send us the names and we will add it to our list immediately, along with a SHOUT OUT to whatever family members (i.e. you) step up.

George Dionyssiou pops another boy named…

April 5th, 2012

Godfather Gotios popped a 2nd kid out of no-where this year and the shocking part is it was with DEEBERKNOCKERS again.  Many thought he would have fled to Greece by now to help Zasser get on his feet but he has stayed and shocked the world.

Godfather View:  We expect a big year from Gotios so look for more effort and commitment from the 2 time KOTH champion who I will knife if he doesnt get his tux measurements and Kim asks me like 3 more times.  Yer.

“OFF THE RECORD” – STOCKWATCH

April 5th, 2012

FantasyGodfathers.com

Week 1 “Off The Record

Stock Watch

RISING STOCK:

1.  George Dionyssiou: this kids ready to pop a 3rd kid

2. Aaron Hernandez TE PATRIOTS:  The Pats are coming guns a blazin’ this week vs the Bills as they want to win to lock up the #1 seed and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

3.  Jermaine Gresham TE BENGALS:  He’s finishing the year strong and the Bengals need to win this week against the Ravens in order to clinch a wild card berth.  Look for heavy targets to Gresham in a game Dalton will be pressured to throw more than run and will limited time to get rid of it leaving Gresham a top target.

4.  Denarius Moore WR OAKLAND: HE had a huge game this past week and the Raiders need to beat San Diego week 17 and also have the Broncos lose to the Chiefs in order to take the AFC West so they’ll be gunning and with so many injuries in the Raiders WR corps, Moore is stepping up more than Heyward-Bey.

5. Demaryius Thomas WR Denver:  He’s going to be a top 25 WR next season and will finish this season with a fine 2nd half and week 17 vs the Chiefs, Tebow will be targeting his #1 receiver over ten times making Thomas a low end WR2 this week or studly WR3 in title games, or if your league does any kind of week 17 incentives.

TANKING STOCK:

1. Aaron Rodgers QB GREEN BAY:  If week 17 is your title week then you can not start Rodgers as he will only play a half at the most.  He may end up with 2 TDs or more in that half but it is unlikely they will be all out gunning here so do not rely on a 300+ 3+ TD game here.

2.  Frank Gore RB SAN FRAN:  This guy has been battling injuries his whole career including this season so the likelihood is he rest some week 17.  You need to know that if the Saints LOSE tonight on Monday Night Football then the 9ers lock up the #2 seed and you won’t see much of Gore at all week 17 making him a “sit” for title games.

3.  Michael Turner RB ATLANTA: Another “Gore” type situation where the Falcons may be resting studs if they are locked into the #6 seed.  If Atlanta loses tonight, they’ll be locked into the #5 or #6 seed meaning they will not need to come balls out week 17 and the same goes for Roddy White and Matt Ryan, but because Turner does have more injuries in his past and has been heavily used this season he will be rested more.

4.  Kevin Smith RB DETROIT: Playing the Packers week 17 means facing a team who will be resting most of their guys this week and the Lions would be wise to counter that by resting Smith who is a vital cog to their team success.  Smith offers them a chance to win it all this year, without him they are in incomplete team with no legit run game.  As it stands now if the Lions are the Wild Card playing week 17 to either go against the Saints if they do not get the #5 seed and end up going to play the Giants or Dallas.

“HIT-LIST” (players nearing fantasy death)

December 28th, 2011

Before the Godfathers put someone “Sleepin’ Wit’ Da Fishes” they usually end up on our HIT-LIST prior to being dumped.  Unless a devastating season ending injury randomly hits, the Godfathers usually know who is close to Sleepin’ Wit Da Fishes.  Look here each and every Sunday to see which players are one or two more bad games away from being declared useless in the fantasy underworld.

Godfather View:  Atlanta choked mightily here and all they could comment on after the game was how Brees should not have ran up the score on them, instead of worrying about their lack of effort to compete against a Saints team they should have been able to beat if not keep the score reasonable.  The Falcons passing game led by Matty ICE was solid as Ryan went for 373 yards but the one TD pass to Julio Jones in the first quarter was ALL they could get here!?  Ryan came out swinging with 10 pts in the first quarter then they only had 6 pts total the next 3 quarters combined.  Chalk it up to a solid Saints home defense but it was more Atlanta’s inability to execute.  The run game was snuffed out as there were 3 guys who rushed this game for Atlanta (Turner, J Rodgers and Ryan) two of them, Rodgers and Ryan BOTH ended up with negative yardage.  Only Turner had positive yards here and even he bombed with only 39 yards on 11 carries.  Turner is likely feeling the effects of all the carries and banging he has endured this season so prepare to see a decline in overall performance for Turner week 17 and beyond.  Julio Jones is fast becoming the #1 fantasy receiver in Atlanta as he has had more BIG games than White this year by far.  White only steps up in home games and Jones has been the road monster for Atlanta.  This kid along with A.J. Green will be running this league WR wise in about 3 more years.

Godfather View:  Drew Brees was on a mission and no one could stop him.  This guy is the epitome of class and sportsmanship and in no way do we fault him for running up the score here or going for any record.  Passing Dan Marino is something no one thought could be done and Brees did it in one less game, amazing.  Hats of to Drew and his lineman for a historic run we are privililedged to say we witnessed.  His 4 TDs here week 16 were a nice example of what he does week in and out.  Pierre Thomas had a solid game with Ingram out again and Thomas should be a fine week 17 play with Sproles likely to get some rest.  Chris Ivory got as many carries as Thomas but could not get a TD or nearly as many rush yards.  Lance Moore is still banged up as he showed in this game leaving hurt, and that means a bump in value for Meachem as we head into week 17 and then the playoffs.  Any Saints player is a reasonable fantasy starter at some capactity.

Godfather View:  This was an odd game as two power outages delayed this game twice before halftime.  A gimpy Big Ben who was getting a cortisone shot in between delays finished with some impressive yardage totals throwing for 330 yards, he was unable to convert on a TD pass so it was a bust game for Ben owners fantasy wise.  If Ben’s not converting we know Rashard Mendenfall is doing squat so Pitt scored 1 FG all game.  Cotchery was the most active Steeler receiver finishing with 93 yards on 5 balls but the distribution of passes was pretty much split four ways evenly with Cotchery getting 5, Heath Miller 5, Wallace 5, and Brown 5.  If Ben is going to continue to feel pain and be less than 100%, these Pitt WRs are in serious value trouble.  Other than Wallace right now no one else can be relied on.  Week 16 the Steelers host the Rams which is an amazingly friendly matchup from a fantasy standpoint yet we won’t be shocked if Mendenhall chokes and goes for less than 100 yards with no TDs and if only Wallace scores and no other Pitt WR.  Ben’s status could be in jeopardy so stay tuned on more.  We may see Charlie Batch starting week 16.

Godfather View:  The 9ers bounced back here and beat the tough Pitt foe improving to 11-3.  The light power delay did not sway their offense as the scored in every quarter.  Alex Smith was far from impressive but he did not throw any interceptions, considering Ben Roethlisberger threw three piks. Gore got it done and scored leading the team with 18 carries.  Facing Seattle week 16 you will have to roll with Gore as he is consistently putting up points.  Vernon Davis defied the odds and scored on this tough Pitt D and is still holding on to top 8 tight end status heading into the final two games.  Crabtree is just not stepping up as we had hoped and we would not consider starting him week 16.  Gore or Davis is it here right now.

Godfather View:  The Rams did what we all expected week 14 and fell to 2-11.  The only two tiny surprises here were Sam Bradford making a last minute decision to start despite missing practice all week with a lingering ankle injury and the fact that Cadillac Williams looked beastly running for 49 yards on only 8 carries.  The rest of the game went entirely as predicted in our weekly LIFE or DEATH News article with SJAX going for 1 TD and about 65 yards rushing and Bradford doing nothing substantial fantasy wise.  Lloyd managed a decent game and was a TD away from an A1 performance.  Outside of SJAX and Lloyd no one else if fantasy worthy if you are in your playoffs this coming week 15 facing the BENGALS defense.

Godfather View:  The Seahawks are on fire and it is for two reasons.  First their defense has been rock solid steady week in and out and Marshawn Lynch is on a vicious 9 consecutive game TD streak that has the fantasy world in awe. Fantasy veterans know this recent performance from Lynch is WELL ABOVE his means as this guy has barely been a RB2 over the last 4 years playing in Buffalo.  His best year ever before this one was 2008 when he had 9 TDs in 15 games played.  He is a legit #1 fantasy RB obviously but WILL have his TD streak in jeopardy playing on the road in week 15 against the solid Bears home run D.  You have to start him, we would, but be prepared for NO TD this week when you likely need it most (in your rd 1 playoff game or semi-finals).  Tarvaris Jackson is still not worth owning or starting and the only other Seahawk with any fantasy relevance is Doug Baldwin and we are not just saying that due to his TD and 93 yard, 7 catch game from week 14.  The rookie out of Stanford caught his 3rd TD of 2011 and had his best yardage game (93) since his week 5 game vs the Giants where he had 136 yards off of a season high 8 receptions.  Given this weeks match vs the Bears on the road, THEN playing the 49ers week 16, we are not starting Baldwin to close out our fantasy playoffs.  Lynch too will let you down big time the next 2 weeks, considering his recent 9 game streak. Watch.

Godfather View:  The Chargers friggin’ finally all came together here and threw in the type of game we thought we’d be getting 4 out of 5 weeks during the year but instead barely got 1 out of every 5 good games.  Rivers amazingly threw zero interceptions and just under 300 yards and 3 scores.  He looked solid and that is in part thanks to Ryan Mathews and his 112 yards on only 13 touches.  Mathews big TD run was gravy on an already locked up win.  Malcolm Floyd could be the missing link to their success here as he returned and went for a team high 108 yards and a score. VJAX and Gates both turned in solid days, VJAX caught a BOMB 35 yarder so if he gets going owners will be pleased.  Going into the fantasy playoff we would own and start Rivers, Mathews, VJAX, Gates and even Floyd as a WR3 with upside.  Tolbert is also useful as a low end RB2 or flex guy so San Diego really provides fantasy depth.

Godfather View:  The Jags gave a noble effort overall here as we saw Maurice Jones-Drew go MADE MAN on the Chargers racking up 97 yards on the ground and then noticed the Jags receivers really truly suck and so he went for 91 yards receiving with a TD on a team high 6 grabs.  Blaine Gabbert nearly shattered his personal ceiling of 200+ yards passing in one game but fell short with 195.  Te Jags came out with 14 first half points and then fell victim to the adjustments San Diego’s D made at halftime and scored zero the 2nd half.  Cecil Shorts popped up for a score here but we wouldn’t give him a 2nd look on this offense.

Godfather View:  The Giants are a sad team too as they are too inconsistent to trust.  The overall team has been suffering injuries we know and things could improve once Ahmad Bradshaw returns.  Eli Manning got it done and then some, fantasy wise chucking for 400+ yards and 2 scores.  The TD to Crux was a break down in the defense, F.Y.I, not Eli threading the needle on a nice pass.  Brandon Jacobs is more useless than Rashard Mendenhall at this point and we would not want to own him, in fact we’d drop him so forget that weak 2 yard TD he was gift wrapped.  Victor Cruz is a top 5 overall best pick up of 2011 fantasy wise and we see him being a legit top 10 WR the rest of the season.  Mario Manningham missed this game as expected and has had more than one injury this year which is a major fantasy ‘red flag’.  Going ahead we would love to own Eli as our starter, Jacobs as a guy to trade or drop, Cruz as a WR2, Nicks as a WR1, Manningham as a bench guy in case Nicks gets WHACKED and Tynes as a low end kicker.  Ballard is a decent tight ned but not one you could ride week in and out.

Godfather View:  The Saints did what we thought they would here and raped the Giants.  Brees is the league leader in pass yards and has a legit chance to break the single season record set by Dan Marino.  The most reliable players to own on the Saints outside of Brees is one of the 3-headed RBs (Ingram, Thomas or Sproles) as they are the only ones giving regular points.  Out of these 3 backs, in PPR Sproles is the man, but in leagues that give more weight to touchdowns, Ingram is who you want.  We’d own Pierre Thomas too but only as insurance if Ingram or Sproles get WHACKED.  Thomas scored this past week too so it’s not crazy to view him as equal value as Ingram but the franchise wants Ingram to be the future, so due to that alone, he has slightly more value than Thomas.  Jimmy Graham is clearly the best tight end in football even over Gronkowski as he went for 84 yards and 2 TDs week 12 and should have had 3 TDs but he was a foot short diving to the end zone cone.  Colston and Lance Moore are the only 2 WRs you could realistically own here and expect something when starting.  Devery Henderson put up decent numbers here too and was tied for the team high in receptions this game with “5” but his production is very unreliable.

Godfather View:  Cutler came through this time and didn’t crack on the road or under the Monday Nitro spotlight.   His yardage was meager at 203 passing but the 2 TDs really was the key here as he lit it up all night to Earl Bennett who led the team with 5 grabs for 95 yards and a TD.  Roy Williams seemed to be gaining value himself after coming back healthy but his weak play week 9 reminded is that he is still that below average type WR who is over-hyped.  You must grab Bennett if you need some WR depth or a potential WR3 right now as Cutler seems to have foung his #1 guy in Bennett.  Forte is still a BEAST but we woudl be looking to move him asap, especially in keeper leagues as he is not going to get the new contract deal he is expecting this year and the Bears will end up franchising him which means he’d have to play another year without a multi-year ‘piece of mind’ deal which means he is going to be VERY disgruntled and have a CJ2K type situation entering 2012 which will translate a a huge fantasy headache for you, PLUS, Marion THE VULTURE Barber is still VULTURING TDs off of Forte which kills his value BIG TIME to close out the season.  Going forward we would love to have Cutler as our back up QB, love to rock Forte as our #1 RB but we would be trying to trade him now, we want Bennett as our WR3 with upside and in TD Heavy leagues we would want Barber or in standard or PPR leagues as a cuff to Forte.

Godfather View: The Eagles fell to 3-5 on the year and got exposed on the national Monday Night Stage by a mediocre Bears D that had been giving up big points to offenses all year.  Other than Vick who finished with 213 yards and no TDs all other players had solid fantasy numbers like Maclin (4-53) Celek (7-60) and McCoy had a nice night with a TD and (16-71) rushing.  Desean Jackson was the only other FLOP of the night other than Vick as the team could not get anything going until the 3rd quarter where they put up 14 pts but all the momentum was gained by huge defensive plays.  Vick’s old mentality to run it first is not paying off this year as often times teams are learning to cut the field in half when playing him forcing Vick into certain areas where they can provide help.  We would look to trade DJAX if we own him and we would begin planning for a solid back up to Vick on our fantasy teams as he is also very overdue for an injury and his rushing game is not trumping his passing game like it did in the days of old so he’s dropping fast in the QB ranks.  Celek has been steadily doing a 180 degree turn as he is now heavily involved as in his last 3 games he has 2 TDs and 18 receptions for 196 yards receiving and in the 5 games before that he had a combined 9 catches and 73 total yards.  We’d love to still own Vick going forward and McCoy is still a top 2 overall fantasy running back.  We would also love to use Maclin as a WR2 and DJAX as a low end WR2 or WR3 with upside.  Celek is currently overtaking Vernon Davis as a top 10 tight end and Henery is giving you pts regularly in the kicking department.

Godfather View:  The Chargers pulled the biggest MNF choke of 2011 overtaking Ravens after they super choked last week and lost to the Jags week 7.  Rivers seemed to be wincing after every throw in the game which is not a good sign obviously.  He may be hiding some pain he has been having.  We are chalking it up to a sore shoulder but are watching his status very carefully. He did end up with 369 yards passing and an un-Rivers like zero TDs.  Not having Tolbert hurt and Mathews getting WHACKED did too as Curtis Brinkley had to come in and went for a solid 43 yards on 10 carries AND had 24 receiving yards in 3 receptions,  If you won Mathews or Tolbert or just need a one week wonder RB grab Brinkley who looks to be the man here for week 9 at home vs the Packers.  Malcolm Floyd is currently the man here as Rivers had to lock on him with VJAX doubled and not looking his usually route running self.  Gates looks 100% and Crayton even chipped in, but like Garcon overtook Wayne in Indy, Floyd may end up overtaking VJAX if he Vincent does not come alive soon. Novak is going to be a sick 2nd half sleeper kicker as well!

Godfather View:  Another ‘how the hec?’ win for Cassel who moves the Chiefs to 4-3 now.  He threw more picks than TDs (2-1) but chucked a TD to Baldwin and got Battle to rush one in and they pulled out the upset here on the grand Monday Night Stage.  Jackie certainly BATTLED going for 70 yards on 19 carries and a score and the Chiefs starting gig is his to lose as he’s looked the best of anyone all year so far.  We also think that Jon Baldwin will end up overtaking Breaston in value as he looked to be a cross between T.O. and Boldin hauling in balls and out muscling defenders.  Things are looking up in Kansas City all of a sudden so feel free to add some Chiefs to your roster.

Godfather View:  The Ravens choked here in massive proportions. The only Raven who salvaged a solid game here fantasy wise was Boldin who had a small score.  His 4 grabs for 40 yards was best out of the receiving corps but he was 2nd in receptions to Ray Rice who had 5 out of the back field.  Ray Rice is a beast and the whole offense looked bad here starting with Flacco, so we’ll give Rice a mulligan here and see if he can come back strong week 8 when Baltimore returns home to host the Cards.  Flacco is too risky to rely on now and outside of Boldin and Rice we aren’t touching anyone else here including Ed Dickson who is overrated with his 1 TD in 6 games.

Godfather View:  The Jags really stunned everyone hear as we had the Ravens winning by at least 10 pts here.  Gabbert did squat to win it going for a robust 93 passing yards and 0 scores.  His -1 yards rushing were also equally as gross.  We knew they’d dump 20+ carries on MJD but did not think he’d get to 30 which put him over 100 rushing yards for the day.  4 FGs by Scobee was the highlight of a snoozer for a MNF game.  Jason Hill once again proved to be the leading Jags receiver with 4 receptions for 62 yards.  Moving ahead if you do not own MJD, you don’t want any guy here.

Godfather View:  Matt Moore did much better than the 3 pts total indicates as he went for 204 yards and 2 picks against a tough Jets D on the road in his 1st start of the season.  He got Marshall involved which is all we can ask in the fantasy world.  Marshall’s 6 catches for 109 are a nice sign moving ahead that he won’t die in value.  Reggie Bush left with a neck injury and Daniel Thomas took over the full load getting 15 carries and 47 yards.  Bush was doing well before getting WHACKED with 10 carries for 71 yards.  Moving ahead all we would want to own here is Marshall or Thomas, the others are just too risky.

Godfather View:  It’s official, Mark Sanchez is not worthy of fantasy starts as he just let us down for the last time.  His 201 yards and 1 Td leave much to be desired as Mark is just not the lead QB on any roster, he is a spot start back up at best and we would not even feel great about a spot start.  While he still has some value from the first 3 games he tore it up, try to trade this guy for whoever!  Shonn Greene looked pretty solid here getting a huge 21 carries and racking up 74 yards.  Greene is a GREAT BUY LOW candidate in trades and we would try to upgrade to him, even giving Javhid Best if needed. Santonio Holmes was the offensive star  in this game going for 63 yards and a nice highlight of the night TD, aside from Revis’ pik 6.  Dustin Keller provided solid yardage with 51 but his 2 catches needs to improve.  L.T. played but him getting 25 yards on 7 carries is almost useless right now.  We would rock Greene or Holmes right now and Keller (as a back up), but that’s it.

GodfatherView:  The Bears got smoked here despite the somewhat close score.  We would not want to own Jay Cutler as this kid is extremely baby-ish and never seems to be playing like a man. He throws his arms up and whines and points fingers when it is he who takes too long to get rid of the ball. There were some O-line issues for sure but Cutler is not getting it done nor is he an NFL nor fantasy team leader by any stretch.  Dump him asap for a player with more upside like a Tim Tebow right now.  Cutler finished with just under 200 yards minus the garbage time points.  His one TD leaves much to be desired.  Other than Matt Forte who continues to impress week in and out there is no one else here you can realistically start.  Hurd, Hester, Davis, Sanzen-whatever, and Knox, no one is stepping up nor can they in our eyes so couple that with a mentally weak QB and that’s a recipe to stay away.

Godfather View: Detroit looked great as it was refreshing to see a couple of big runs from Javhid Best who seemed long overdue but the truth is Detroit does not want to be a run-first mentality team so use this BIG game by Best to shop him around and see if you could get like a Gore or CJ2K for him right now.  Megatron was his usual MADE MAN self as he easily toppled 100 yards receiving and threw in one TD which must have really disappointed you spoiled owners out there expecting 2 a week minimum now, we feel real bad for you guys.  Brandon Pettigrew is climbing the ranks here and is now a must start tight end going forward, he scored again in week 5 and finished with 4 catches for 39 yards receiving.  Nate Burleson really let us down as it does appear we were wrong and he is being fazed out rather than them making an attempt to get him involved.  Titus Young was the 3rd best receiver here as he went for 2 catches and 14 yards, no one other than Stafford, Megatron, Best and Pettigrew can be started here now on this offense.

Godfather View:  Curtis Painter performed much better than we thought.  In fact he should have done better but there were a few dropped passes and also a few complete collapses by the offensive line that really hurt his stats.  On the first play of the game he came right out and fired a 20 yard 1st down pass to Pierre Garcon but Garcon was not ready and it bounced off his chest.  Pierre certainly made up for that as he scored TWO monster long TDs that were GOLD in leagues that reward for distance scoring with bonuses.  Painter seems to LOVE targeting Garcon as he did last week 2 when he came in for a hurt Collins.  Go get Pierre if he is out there and we think he may become a decent WR3 if Painter stays in there as QB for week 5 at home VS. K.C. Wayne is someone you need to bench at this point as teams are just doubling him and neither Painter nor Collins is skilled enough to get him the ball while doubled.  Joseph Addai let us down as he came out looking decent then just gave way to Delone Carter who did not exactly look ten times better.  Carter had 21 yards on 7 carries to Addai’s 41 yards on 11 carries.  Dallas Clark perked up a bit but looked to be wincing after every catch so his week 4 three catch for 46 yard performance is about the norm of what you’ll be getting going forward with a TD mixed in here and there.  Even Garcon’s performance is a bit of a ‘farce’ so if someone is willing to trade you like Boldin for Garcon or Colston at this point, PULL THE TRIGGER!
Godfather View: Josh Freeman stepped up and led the comeback here although it was not that impressive a run or game for him or the Bucs overall who should have done more at home against a hurting Indy squad.  Freeman salvaged a good fantasy game by rushing for 1 TD and passing for 1 TD.  He was 13 yards short of a nice 300 yard passing game and he took a backseat to the big game by LeGarrette Blount.  Blount started out kinda slow then broke a big run in the 3rd quarter that led to a 35 yard TD and put him over 100 yards for the day.  We love Blount going forward so keep him active week 5 @ S.F.  Arrelious Benn and Mike Williams were supposed to be the fantasy stars here on the receiving end but up popped Preston Parker again for a great game.  Parker has very quietly had 3 out of 4 solid weeks now with 4 receptions for 44 yards week 1, (6-98) week 2, a quiet week 3 with 1-11 but then week 4 he’s right back with a team high 5 receptions and 70 yards with  the only receiving TD. We wouldnt rush to add him in leagues unless they are 14-16 team ones but we would look to move Williams and Benn as they just aren’t targeted enough in this offense.

Godfather View:  This game was pretty ugly on both ends as Grossman and Romo nearly mirrored one anothers’ performance and Grossman actually threw a TD to Hightower as the only TD of the game.  The smart play here was to take the Redskins and the 5.5 pts and it paid off tonight as the outcome went as planned and Dallas set a record for 9 consecutive games decided by 3 points or less.  Tim Hightower was the lone Redskin fantasy star here pulling 41 rush yards and 39 receiving with the coveted score.  Jabar Gaffney never got off here as he ended up with a quiet 60 yards on 5 catches (tying Santana Moss for game high receptions).  Fred Davis also went back to obscurity as he managed only 1 catch. Going forward Grossman is only a BYE week replacement QB and Hightower is a low end #2 RB.  Cooley re-emerged back on the scene with 4 catches for 41 yards so he is now going to cancel out Fred Davis’ value as this tight end rotation is going to be a roller coaster of aggravation so keep away.

Godfather View: Dallas pulled out a close one here on 6 FGs by Dan Bailey, he was the fantasy star of the entire game here as Dallas just kept moving the ball then stalling without GAME-BREAKER Miles Austin in the line up.  Dallas has one more game week 4 before their week 5 BYE so if they can get past another home game against a RED HOT Detroit team then they can get healthy over the BYE week then come into N.E. week 6 ready to rumble in the jungle, if the Bills could do it Dallas could as they are up and down overall but when they are up they’re tough to beat.   Witten, Bryant and Austin are 3 serious offensive weapons and Felix Jones can break a game wide open as well.  Felix had 115 yards on 14 carries and may be ready to take on a legit #2 running back role after their BYE week 5.  Neither DeMarco Murray or Tashard Choice got any real time here or made anything of it so it’s Felix all the way here going ahead.  Romo, Felix, Bryant, Austin and Witten are the only Cowboys to covet here.  (oh yeah 6 FG BAILEY TOO).

Godfather View:  Sam Bradford certainly stepped up on Monday Nitro Madness as he threw for 331 yards and one TD in a hostile New York environment.  The BIG game we all expected from Cadillac never came as he disappointed on 13 carries for 36 yards and an even worse 3 catches for 4 yards. Jerious Norwood was given 3 carries and only gained 8 yards himself.  Danario Alexander was the BIG story to note here as he busted out for 122 yards on 3 carries. We all thought Sims-Walker would lead the way or Gibson would step up but it was Alexander showing his big play ability as he scored on a bomb 68 yard TD.  Sims-Walker quietly had a great night to with 92 yards on 6 receptions.  Lance Kendricks continues to disappoint and we have to admit we were likely wrong on Kendricks with our pre-season hype. He will be a top 10 tight end in a few years, maybe next, but this year will be a learning experience.

Godfather View:  The Giants HAD to win this game as the Rams were with a banged up Bradford and without their stud S-JAX so losing here and going 0-2 would have caused chaos in the streets of New York.  Eli was not spectacular but he didn’t need to be as the tandem of Jacobs and Bradhsaw totaled 109 yards running and Bradshaw led all receivers with 5 catches and 45 yards receiving. Hakeem “the Dream” Nicks played but did not look himself and finished with only 3 catches but made one of them a TD to reward all those loyal owners who started him (deciding on Sunday).  Dominck Hixon got a TD (as we predicted) although it was a lucky one as the ball bounced off his chest first as he never saw it then he pulled it in inches off the turf.  The Passing game will go as Eli goes and this week Eli was not gunslingin’, but the fact Nicks made out was encouraging.  Jacobs is a true TD vulture and will kill Bradshaw’s value all season.  Jacobs actually got 1 more carry than Ahmad week 2 so the Giants are committed equally to both guys right now.

September 12, 2011

Uncle Tom just couldn't let rookie Cam Newton steal the headlines this week after passing for a shocking 400+ yards so Mr. Brady went for over 500+ yards with 4 scores AND the WIN to show the youngster what he can aspire to someday.

Godfather View: McNabb must feel like a real winner after not breaking 40 yards passing in a WHOLE game then watched Brady on Monday night casually toss for over 500 yards and 4 scores.  Tom “terrific” was unstoppable as he was utilizing his tight end(s) immaculately.  The Pats offense looked slow at first then just came raw in the 2nd half after classic Belichick adjustments.  Amazing that both Gronkowski and Hernandez can both go off, imagine if the Pats had just Gates, he’d catch 20 TDs a year in the Pat offense designed around tight end play.  Deion Branch re-emerged as Brady’s deep threat as he 7 balls for 93 yards and a touchy.  Green-Ellis looked solid early on then disappeared as Woodhead ended up leading in carries with 14.  Green-Ellis will always be the goal line back so he is a solid #2 or flex play the rest of the year on the might Pats offense.  Do not give up on Ocho after one game as he will become more involved as we move through the first half of the season.

Godfather View: Everyone is tossing for over 400 yards week 1.  Henne was the latest to eclipse the 4 hundo mark as he threw 49 times for 416 yards and 2 scores.  He also rushed one in for a score to start the game, then Miami quickly gave the momentum back to New England and never got it back.  If Miami plans on dumping 20+ carries a week on Bush he will NOT last more than 6 games before he gets WHACKED.  L.J. got zero carries which shocks us as Bush’s 3 yard a carry average wasn’t cutting it.  Bush only had 11 carries but that is because the Pats pulled away crippling the Miami run game.  Brandon Marshall had 7 grabs for a MONSTER 139 yards but went down late in the game holding his right knee, another STUD gets WHACKED, injuries are the only thing that can spoil fantasy fun, that’s why DEPTH WINS TITLES!!  If Marhsall is seriously hurt then Davone Bess becomes a MUST GRAB free agent FUHGETABOUTIT pick-up.

Godfather View:  Whether the Raiders pulled out the victory or the Broncos handed it to them is debatable. Regardless, a win is a win and the BLACK HOLE faithful will take it!  Campbell looked horrendous passing for 105 yards and one score.  There are a bunch of WRs on Oakland with a lot of potential like Ford, Heyward-Bey, Schilens and Denarius Moore but no one of real substance and consistency in terms of being a fantasy starter.  Going forward all we feel comfortable owning here is McFadden.  He had a beastly 150 yards on 22 carries and we will admit, we underestimated his abilities this week in our BULLET-PROOF Rankings.  Oakland plays @ Buffalo week 2 so McFadden may be our top back for this week.  Wee k they play the Jets so he will likely be more quiet than weeks 1-2.

Godfather View:  The Broncos really flopped here and it wasn’t just one person. We expected so much more from Orton, Moreno and McGahee but were disappointed in each case.  Orton managed 304 yards (which is nice in bonus leagues for the +300 yard performance) but the 1 TD hurts.  Orton had many missed opportunities to score so there is promise moving into week 2 at home versus Cincy.  Look for them to get back on track and stuff Cedric Benson.  They just let up a ton to McFadden but Cedric is no ‘entertainer’ week in and out.  Look for a flop by Benson week 2 as a random side note. Lloyd salvaged a respectable game with 6 catches for 89 yards with no scores.  Eric Decker also looked flashy as he returned a punt for a TD and was the sole momentum provider for Denver all night. Lets grant Denver a ‘do-over’ and see what happens at home week 2 before we condemn the BIG 3 here.
